The West Wight is the most unspoiled and picturesque area of the Isle of Wight. To the west the famous Needles stand majestically guarding the coast. The lighthouse safeguards shipping from the treacherous rocky coastline of the western tip.
Totland Bay is situated on the Solent on the north coast only 3 miles from the Needles. In an area of Natural Outstanding Beauty, it is the perfect spot for a retreat from the hustle and bustle of mainland life. It is one of the most natural, unspoiled beaches on the Island.
Situated only 10 minutes from the ferry and the pretty bustling harbour at Yarmouth, it is not only very beautiful, but it is very safe for bathing and has the accolade of a Blue Flag award for the quality of the water.
When the tide is out, golden sand is revealed, but sand can always be found at the far end of the beach, or else a short stroll along the sea wall to Colwell, the next bay (see below)

The surrounding countryside is very beautiful, a walker's paradise. A walk over the headland (called the Warren) takes you to Alum Bay where you see the Needles, the chairlift into the bay, the famous ancient Coloured sands of Alum Bay and the theme park which has lots of entertainment for the whole family.
From Alum Bay a walk over Tennyson's Down to Freshwater Bay from gives you the most stunning views over the whole West Wight, the English Channel and the Solent. On a clear day the spectacular South Coast of England is visible to Poole Harbour and beyond. A stroll along the promenade to Colwell, which is the next bay along will take less than 15 minutes.
